SJB has two main committees responsible for doing the majority of the leg-work of the Governing Body. Each committee is run by a Chair and the Headteacher sits on each of the committees. There are also two other committees to consider employee pay progression relating to appraisal and performance in line with statutory policies.
Meetings are minuted so that their business and any decisions reached can be fed back in detail to the following meeting of the full Governing Body. Committee meetings are quorate when three governors (which can include the Headteacher) are in attendance.
Monitoring means gathering evidence to check what progress has been made towards strategic priorities, and targets and the implementation of policies. In the context of monitoring Key Areas. Governors are allocated lead responsibilities and key areas to monitor: their task is to identify successes with the school’s improvement priorities and areas that need further work or more resources to enable pupils to achieve their true potential.
